You May Soon Drive Down Bush Avenue
The agenda for this evening’s University Park City Council includes a proposed name change for Airline Road/Dublin Street to Bush Avenue. The city staff is in favor of the change, which was requested by SMU, for two reasons:
1. SMU is building student housing along the road, and that likely will lead to emergency calls once the students move in. Having one name for that road will cut down on confusion on the part of callers/dispatchers.
2. The name change will affect only SMU and the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Nobody else owns property on that stretch of road, between Mockingbird Lane and SMU Boulevard.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. if you want to weigh in.
Bush Boulevard has a nicer ring to it, IMO.
I agree … Bush Blvd would be much, much better.
Bush Avenue was approved at last night’s City Council meeting.
Um, it’s clearly not a boulevard, kids. The word “boulevard” actually means something. Look it up.
@Z, we get it. A nicer ring to it was just an opinion, nothing more. Clearly, it’s not a boulevard in the strict sense of the word “divided lane, usually tree-lined” which is intended to be traveled more slowly and deliberately than other types of street types. Compare it to Turtle Creek Blvd. north of Lovers, or Harry Hines, Irving or even McFarlin (west of Preston), University (west of Inwood) Blvds. When completed, it will be a great asset to the campus and community with the new Center, Dorm and other improvements underway.
