Take An Affordable Spring Break World Trip With One Visit
Since the Perot Museum of Nature and Science opened in December, it’s gotten lots of love from the media, so much that this nature lover wants to remind everyone about another downtown nature mecca, the Dallas World Aquarium.
Highland Park ISD spring break is next week, and if you haven’t made plans to go skiing or swimming and are instead staying home this year, you could take a trip around the world in one visit to the aquarium.
My family was often Dallas-bound for spring break and my mom frequently took us on adventures to the aquarium. I’ll never forget laughing at the penguins, cawing at the birds in the rainforest exhibit, and being entranced by the translucent jellyfish. My mom particularly loved that most of the exhibits were indoors, as it was a perfect place to go when rain clouds miraculously appeared and started pouring.
My mom’s philosophy during breaks was, “Just because kids don’t have school, that doesn’t mean they can’t still be learning.” For like-minded parents, the aquarium’s website has a full listing of daily feedings and talks, including the “Sloths are for Kids” talk in their Orinoco exhibit at 11 a.m. and shark feedings at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. that are sure to engage even the most easily-distracted among us.
If you visit on Saturday or Sunday, be sure to catch Grupo Pakal performing traditional Mayan dances to native music in the Mundo Maya exhibit. Now that’s some serious fun.
