Rangers Get Another Shot at Rams

Jesuit’s basketball team will get a third shot at District 9-5A rival Richardson Berkner. This time, the stakes will be a lot higher than in the two previous meetings this season.

After losing to the Rams (30-5) twice in district play, the Rangers (24-8) will try to knock Berkner out of the playoffs when the teams battle in a Class 5A Region II quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Highlands. Berkner beat Jesuit by 8 and 17 points earlier this season.

Jesuit opened the playoffs with a 53-40 bi-district victory over Allen. The Rangers then held off Garland Lakeview Centennial, 61-60, in the area round on Friday night. Berkner beat McKinney Boyd, 59-48, in bi-district and Mesquite Horn, 81-54, in area.

The winner of Tuesday’s contest will take on the Lufkin-Spring Westfield winner in the regional semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday at Waco Midway High School. The regional finals are at 2 p.m. Saturday.
