Highland Park UMC Hosts Swingin’ Service Sunday
If you’re a fan of jazz music and also like to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord,” Highland Park United Methodist Chapel has an opportunity for you to experience both this weekend. On Sunday, at 8:30 and 11 a.m., the Dallas Jazz Quartet will be leading the congregation in two special jazz worship services in the Cox Chapel. Because this is the Sunday before Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday, the music will include “a mix of spirituals, hymns, and original compositions with a Louisiana Dixie-Land flavor,” jazz pianist Charles Winslow said. The United Methodist Reporter recently wrote an article on the impact that jazz music is having in churches, so this sounds like a unique opportunity to explore a different style of Sunday-morning music.
