Highland Park Prohibits Construction on Holidays
The Highland Park Town Council voted yesterday to ban construction on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and four other holidays. (I don’t have the list in front of me.) Coincidentally, the University Park City Council has a similar discussion scheduled for this evening’s meeting. We’ll have more details in this week’s paper.
Bravo. It’s about time. Hope UP follows suit. Now if we could just ban leaf blowers on Saturday and Sunday this place would be a regular sleep in late hog heaven.
Hmm. A leaf blowing ban on weekends would mean homeowners couldn’t do their own yards. Not everyone employs lawn crews, believe it or not. My CEO husband does his own yard and its not going to get done during the week.
Now if they could just do something about construction worker’s vehicles blocking the street. Couldn’t get through Armstrong Blvd. between Douglas and Preston the other day.
Amen MGB
No way OJ – I agree with Mother Bear, I also take care of my own yard and lead a company/travel extensively during the week. It’s a nice change and allows me to enjoy the outdoors and think. If council wants to do something useful regarding leaf blowers, how about outlawing blowing ANYTHING into the street and instead making sure what is in the street gets blown into the yard and picked up. If everyone knew how much of the silt, blockage and muck in Turtle Creek and the park ponds is due to yard waste blown into the sewers by nature and man, they would demand a change in the way we approach yard maintenance. We could save significant amounts of operating budget and improve the health of the creek. Of course we would need some upstream help from Dallas…
Not sure about HP, but in UP no workers are allowed on Sunday.
