Let’s Discuss DISD Before You Finish That Beer

I like writing about Dallas ISD and and the many children in its system, and certainly like going to bars on occasion. That, and I’ve been to the West End Pub about 300 times to see a musician friend’s gigs. It’s not seedy or even all that atmospheric, save for the music (no offense). But the bartenders are friendly, and they serve food alongside the beer.

Anyway, when someone forwarded me the following brief email, I cracked up a tad on the inside:

Join Leadership DISD for a discussion on the changing face of public education – How will public schools respond to the shifting demographics of Texas?

Monday Dec 10, 6:30-8:30 at the West End Pub.

At a bar? Really?

An attachment explained things. The event is called Pub Ed (get it?);  it’s truly just a big casual conversation — one sponsored by an independent nonprofit — that’ll cover “some of the most important and timely issues in public education.” And it might be a really good idea.

All are welcome.
