Why Should Trinity Christian Play Nolan in Waco?

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools arranged months ago for its trio of 11-man football championship games to be played at one site, Baylor University’s Floyd Casey Stadium. And that’s fine if you’re talking about the Division III game, which features teams from Frisco and Shiner, or the Division II matchup, which pits a school from Houston against a team from Midland. In those cases, Waco is a great “meet you halfway” location.

But the Division I title game features Trinity Christian Academy, which is in Addison, and Fort Worth’s Nolan Catholic High School. It makes zero sense for two teams from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to travel to Waco. There are dozens of stadiums in North Texas that could host that game.

Think about all of the time and gas that will be wasted getting the two schools’ players, coaches, bands, cheerleaders, and fans down Interstate 35. What would be the harm if Trinity and Nolan blew off the TAPPS arrangement and arranged their own neutral site closer to home?
