Big East Conference Announces Divisions
Big East Conference commissioner Mike Aresco announced today the conference will be comprised of two six-team divisions in football and will have a conference championship game beginning next season.
SMU, which is in its final season in Conference USA, will be in the West Division with Boise State, Houston, Memphis, San Diego State, and Temple. The East Division will be made up of Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers, and South Florida. The two division champions will meet at the home of one of the teams for the conference title.
“This new alignment gives the conference and its fans the best of both worlds — national exposure that is the result of the Big East being in six of the top 10 U.S. media markets — with a schedule that focuses on regional rivalries,” Aresco said.
