SMU to Screen Classics From Paramount, Universal
SMU isn’t the only institution celebrating a centennial. The university is hosting a two-night festival focusing on the 100th anniversary of Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures.
At 7 tonight, Dr. Rick Worland from SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts will discuss “The Monsters of Universal,” focusing on the monster era of the ’30s at Universal Pictures. His discussion will be followed by a screening of Dracula (1931).
At 7 tomorrow, Lisa Daniels Wall from SMU’s Fondren Library Media Collection will discuss “The Fairy Tales of Paramount Pictures,” focusing on the early years of Paramount. Her talk will be followed by screenings of Alice in Wonderland (1933) and Cinderella (1914).
Both events are free to attend. I’m not sure exactly where they’re happening on campus, but when I find out, I’ll update this post.
Update: McCord Auditorium in Dallas Hall
WHAT? No “Sunset BLVD” screening. That’s Paramount’s signature movie.
