Gunman Robs HP Woman in Her Backyard
On Tuesday, a woman was held at gunpoint in her backyard, marking only the second armed robbery in Highland Park in at least 22 months.
According to a news release from HP Sgt. Lance Koppa, the robber entered a backyard in the 3500 block of Lindenwood Avenue and confronted the victim when she walked out her back door.
The robber put a gun to her neck and ordered the woman to hand over her watch and smart phone. He then told her to go into her house to grab cash for him. Taking advantage of a short distance between the two, the woman managed to get inside her home and lock the door behind her.
Koppa said the woman’s calm manner and thinking on her feet allowed her to lock the robber out of her home and limit the situation.
The suspect is described as a white male about 28 to 32 years old and weighing around 180 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a dark zippered jacket and blue jeans, Koppa said.
