Big Tex Still Lives
Big Tex’s original head is in fact in the ownership of a University Park resident.
Collector Wayne Smith bought the head in the early ’90s when Fair Park was auctioning off some old items cropping up in their storage. The original head was replaced by the now burnt version.
He has since had it restored and it’s now resting in storage in Sulphur Springs.
Smith said the chicken wire and paper mache head made an appearance at last year’s State Fair. He hopes to reach out to the Fair to see if they need his original for any future incarnations of the Texas legend.
