Highland Park head coach Randy Allen moved past former Arlington Lamar coach Eddie Peach into ninth place on the all-time winningest coaches in Texas high school football list with the Scots’ 20-19 win over Mesquite Poteet on Oct. 11.

Allen, who is in his 32nd year of coaching, is now 311-77-6. He needs just three more wins to get all the way to seventh place. Childress’ Charlie Johnston and Hays Consolidated’s Bob Shelton are both at 313. And five more wins would move Allen past Newton’s Curtis Barbary and into sixth. All of those coaches are no longer active.

However, four of the current top five coaches are still active, led by Aubrey’s G.A. Moore at 426 wins.
