HP Teen Rallies for Brother’s Cause Tonight
But you may not know how much Christi Dupree has affected this year’s festivities. The HP junior’s brother, Ben, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. So Christi has been working hard — really hard — to drum up awareness of the disease and the boys and young men who suffer from it. She’s spreading the word about a nonprofit sponsored by the AFCA called Coach to Cure; which is dedicated to raising funds for Duchenne research and will prompt coaches across the country to wear arm patches this Saturday.
Thanks to Christi’s efforts, Scots and Belles captains and the varsity cheerleaders are all wearing Coach to Cure T-shirts right now, and more shirts will be on sale for $10 at the cheerleader/Scotsman Hamburger Supper and tonight’s game. You can also text “cure” to 90999 to make a $5 donation to the cause (you’ll hear some announcements about this before and during the game). The five highest donors will get commemorative footballs autographed by Allen and varsity players.
Not around tonight? You can still get in on the action tomorrow, when SMU faces TCU.
From Ben’s mother, Debbie:
Ben will also be holding down a Coach to Cure MD table at the SMU Family Weekend BBQ and Tailgate on the Boulevard pre SMU vs. TCU game this Saturday. SMU and TCU are both supporting Coach to Cure again this year. We will be raffling off a Coach to Cure MD football signed by SMU Football Coach June Jones at that location!
Ben is her older brother. Graduated ’11.
Thanks, K! I took out the adjective altogether; seems irrelevant unless I get it wrong:)
