Gilley’s to Host Fundraiser For Ursuline Grad’s Memorial Scholarship
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Michigan Wolverines will open the college football season Saturday at Cowboys Stadium. But local Alabama fans will get together the previous evening for the second annual ‘Bama Boot Scoot For Ashley. The fundraiser for the Ashley Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the 2007 Ursuline graduate who was killed by the massive tornado that devastated Tuscaloosa, Ala., in April 2011.
Harrison was just days from graduation at the University of Alabama, where she studied economics and had ambitions of becoming a lawyer. The inaugural fundraiser brought in more than $40,000, which will help other North Texans who want to follow in Harrison’s footsteps.
“Ashley, our only child, loved life and lived it to the fullest throughout her 22 years,” Harrison’s parents, Dave and Darlene Harrison, said in a statement. “Ashley was committed to helping others, and we are truly grateful for the ongoing support and love we’ve received from so many as we continue her legacy through this scholarship at the University of Alabama.”
The ‘Bama Boot Scoot For Ashley, featuring music by the Ray Johnston Band, begins at 8 p.m. Friday at Gilley’s. Tickets are $15, and they can be purchased here.
