Gauge Your Mileage at NorthPark Center

The Senior Living page in this week’s paper includes a story about the people who use NorthPark Center as an exercise venue. When I asked the mall’s management if they could confirm how much mileage a walker can get in by doing a single lap, they provided me with this handy-dandy map. If you hug the exterior walls on the first floor, it’s .92 miles. If you do the same on the interior, it’s .75 miles. Now take a lap!

I loved reading this story in today’s paper. I remember when I was a kid I could never figure out why I kept seeing the same old lady blazing past me every 15 minutes me at Northpark. My mom explained she was exercising and that made it even more wierd. Nowadays picking out the mall walkers from the shoppers is what I do when the wife drags me there.

It’s depressing that I can’t keep up with half of those people!

beating and/or mugging someone each lap burns an additional 300 calories!

don’t think that hasn’t occurred to me when people are walking 4 and 5 abreast at a turtle pace!
