Margie Ann Lyle Jones died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the age of 93. Margie was born on March 15, 1919, in Shamrock, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She married Dr. E.K. Jones in 1940 and later moved with her family to Amarillo, Texas.

Margie was an active member in many civic and church organizations in the city of Amarillo. She spent the last 10 years of her life living near her granddaughters in Dallas at the Edgemere. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. E.K. Jones, her son, Dan Franklin Jones, and her daughter, Janet Jones Burford.

She leaves behind her three granddaughters and their families: Melissa Burford Bernard and her husband Brett, Ashley Burford Smith and her husband Stacy, Blaire Burford Sherer and her husband Scott. “Nana” cherished her 11 great grandchildren: Sarah Bernard, Blake Bernard, Luke Bernard, Charlotte Bernard, Sammy Smith, Morgan Smith, Ben Smith, Billy Smith, Henry Sherer, David Sherer, and Janet Sherer.

Her family would like to extend a very special thank you to the three caregivers who have taken care of our Nana for nearly 10 years – Elaine Williams, Maxine Brooks and Sharon Brooks. All of our lives have been deeply touched and made better due to the love and care these amazing women have showered on Nana.

A private burial was held at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas, followed by a Memorial Service at Polk Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Donations may be made to Polk Street United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
