A Long Goodbye
It was a true pleasure to follow James Gilley around for an hour or so. It’s not news breaking that mom and pop shops are slowly closing. Pharmacist/founder Gilley, 80, is retiring and closing up Gilley’s Pharmacy in Oak Cliff. July 25 was the store’s last day. His son/employee Kevin has been with him pretty much every step of the way. It truly was like stepping back in time. The store is full of neon signs and other nostalgia. Gilley even broke out some prescriptions from the 1900s. “Maybe I will go skydiving or mountain climbing,” jokes Gilley. “If you believe that you will believe anything,” Kevin Gilley chimed in.
