HP Orders More West Nile Sprayings After Death
Got this e-mail from Highland Park’s always-in-the-office-before-everyone-else town administrator Bill Lindley this morning:
The Town will be spraying the entire town this weekend for mosquitoes. The work will be provided by the City of University Park, which has equipment and licensed employees. The Town will reimburse the City for the work.
While discussing the request with [UP city manager] Bob Livingston, he was immediately supportive to the request. We are very appreciative to the assistance provided by University Park. This is just another example of the continued great work and cooperation that goes on each day between the Town and City.
The town will also pass out mosquito repellant at the pool this weekend.
Between the time I left my apartment and got into the office, Lindley sent a follow-up email:
[Director of town services] Ronnie Brown just reported to me he was able to finalize this morning work by Dallas County to also provide a spraying of the entire town Monday night. Services by Dallas County are at no charge. The separate work by University Park and Dallas County will be for the entire town.
There is standing water on Bowser just east of Lemmon Ave. Possibly from a sprinkling system. Water collects along the curb and eventually dries up, only to be replenished by more water the next day or so.
I get pretty critical of the UP City Council and others fairly often in this blog, but I’ve always been so impressed with Bob Livingston. He’s responsive, and reasonable. If he has an ego, he sure hasn’t shown it to me. He’s a real asset to UP.
It can be argued that the entire town should have been sprayed a few weeks ago, but at least it’s getting done now.
