State Board of Education Runoff Nears for HP’s Miller

Back in 2010, I interviewed State Board of Education veteran Geraldine “Tincy” Miller, before newcomer/financial underdog George Clayton ousted her for the District 12 seat.

The other day I caught up again with Miller (whose moniker, for the record, is pronounced “tyne-see”). The Highland Park resident is in a Republican SBOE runoff this time around, facing Richardson contender Gail Spurlock on July 31, with the winner to go against Democrat Lois Parrott in November. Clayton reportedly plans to run as a write-in candidate then, too.

Anyway, for all my time spent talking with Miller, 76 — and even after D‘s Tim Rogers had this about her campaign photos —  I didn’t think to check for a Facebook page. Miller certainly has one, as was pointed out to be me today, with online followers currently numbering around 1,250. Spurlock is on Facebook, too.

Note: the Tea-Party-backed Spurlock drummed up some serious ridicule after this video ran on the Observer and Texas Freedom Network sites. In it, she says the Pilgrims were Communists (or maybe communists, with a lowercase “c”) before they learned certain Biblical principles – and that’s why so many died in their first year ashore.

Keep an eye out for our July 27 paper; It’ll have more about Miller, Spurlock, and thoughts from Miller’s opponent-turned-ally Pam Little.

Miller should be able to capitalize on the success of her daughter in law Dena Miller who is the reigning Mrs. Highland Park. Dena also now has the time to campaign after the lawsuit against her for disparaging a cast member of Big Rich Texas has been settled. Quite a family, that Miller clan!
