Cupcake ATM Coming to Plaza at Preston Center
I was out of town the past four days, so I’ve been trying to catch up on all the news I’ve missed. “Cupcake ATM” is right up there with anything I could find on the Park Cities YMCA.
Per Now 102.9, Sprinkles Cupcakes will install the company’s second-ever cupcake ATM at their Plaza at Preston Center location later this summer. Holds 600 cupcakes at a time, and the cupcakes are cycled out to maintain freshness. All uneaten cakes go to a local charity.
Best part: 24 hours a day.
I’m not sure what kind of food traffic there is at the Plaza at 3:30 a.m. on a Tuesday, but I’m sure it will now increase.
We’re hurtling towards the moment in time where the machines will finally achieve their rightful throne at the top of the world, and we’re heading there on a red velvet (with cream cheese frosting) carpet.
Idiocracy
The one in Beverly Hills is great. And surprisingly, a big part of their business.

Fatties rejoice.
GIven that Sprinkles’ storefront cupcakes already are absolute dreck, it’s hard to imagine how awful the machine versions will be. But, as Mencken said, “No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.” This seems particularly true in Dallas, and even more so in University Park. Whatever was popular three years ago in Beverly Hills will go over like gangbusters in UP.
