GPA Vote May Be Delayed Again
We’ve been following talk within HPISD about a possible change to the current GPA policy — one that could include a pass/fail option for junior and senior athletics, drill team, and cheerleading classes (Here’s a link to another blog post with more context).
At last month’s called meeting, trustees opted to shelve the issue until this month’s regular one. That meeting is tomorrow, and though there’s a note about localized class-rank policy, GPA changes don’t seem to be on the consent agenda. Stay tuned.
UPDATE/oops: As a commenter said below, the note about localized policy indicates the same GPA material we’ve been discussing all along. It sure doesn’t rule it out, anyway. Here’s how that item reads, under Administrative Services/TASB Localized Board Policies: EIC(LOCAL): ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT – CLASS RANKING
VIII.B.1.d. EIC(LOCAL): ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT – CLASS RANKING
Usually there is a link to the entire agenda briefing packet, including a red-lined draft of the proposed policy.
Have you heard something official?
In the HPISD agenda from the May 15th and 22nd meetings, they called this issue the same thing:
a.EIC(LOCAL): ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT – CLASS RANKING
So seems it most likely will be discussed at this afternoon’s meeting.
If you go to the HPISD website, under Public Meetings, and click on Agenda at the top of the listing of meeting dates, it will take you to another link that will show the meeting agendas.

@ Parent: I took the localized policy updates to be non-action items, or at least ambiguously worded ones, because they’re often on meeting agendas in other contexts.
This blog post originally referred to the meeting’s consent agenda before a well-meaning coworker edited it (I’ve since changed it back, though I shouldn’t suggest that “consent” items are the only action items). And on second thought, you’re probably right about the policy note. The GPA issue is supposed to come up this afternoon, one way or another.
I’m curious to see how it goes, and wonder if it’ll be a packed house.
@Listed: I’ve been on the hunt for said packet. It’s not where it would usually be:)
The mystery begins…
