Dunkin Donuts to Open 50 More Delicious Locations

Back east, there’s a Dunkin Donuts (approximately) every 13 feet. These purveyors of coffee and confection were a part of my youth, meaning I had two friends who worked there so we ate donuts until we heaved.

So when I moved to Texas and started looking around for a DD, I was distressed that the closest one to my apartment is on Preston and 635, 20 minutes from Casa de Pearson. It’s a trek I’ve never made.

Now, hopefully, that will change. Jerry Jones and Troy Aikman are teaming up to bring 50 new Dunkin Donuts locations to DFW in the next five years, making this the first time I’ve actively cheered for Cowboys.

I know there used to be a location in Snider Plaza, so two questions:

1. Why did it close?

2. Would the Park Cities be receptive of another location? (Please say yes.)

I’ll believe 50 when I see it. While they are strong in the Northeast, they have a tough time outside of those areas penetrating into markets. With many strong competitors in Dallas (7-11, Starbucks, QuikTrip, Mustang Donuts local shops, etc), tough market to enter.

I am a Northeast transplant as well and DD is like mecca to me. I cried when they closed the one in Snider Plaza. I believe Dive Coastal Cuisine is in the spot where DD used to be. I think they left b/c the rent was jacked up extremely high very unexpectedly. I will travel to the one at Preston and LBJ sometimes before work or on the weekends, but now with the construction on 635….. But I think there is no denying that their coffee is far superior than anyone else’s out there. It’s phenomenal, in my opinion. Look for one at Lovers and Greenville soon. That’s what my sources are saying…

Merritt liked the iced coffee. I liked their grilled cheese. Bring ’em back.

There was one on University close to the Campus when I was at Tech in the late 60’s and early 70’s. we went there frequently for late night study breaks. I, too, would like to see a DD close to the Bubble.

    1. It closed because SMU kids and Parkies like their Starbucks and Mustang Donuts. I’m a Drip fan myself.
    2. Free market economy, receptive to anyone who wants to open a business, especially 50 businesses. Good Luck.

The DD in Snider failed because of lack of sales, not a rent raise. The rent was already raised to silly levels in a frustratingly sucessful attempt to get rid of Balls. If I had known DD served grilled cheeses though, I might have added to their sales on a regular basis. Going to go by the LBJ/Preston one soon to try it out, thanks for the heads up DemBones.

Though it will be good that Dunkin’ Donuts will be spread all over the Metroplex and in the Park Cities. Where does this lead the Cowboys?

@sweet. Greenville & Lovers would locate them near Krispy Kreme (also good coffee), which surprises me.

you people dont know what you are missing. I wanted to name my first child dunkin. Forget about the donuts – nothing beats a sausage egg & cheese on an everything bagel with a huge french vanilla iced coffee!

DD’s donuts didn’t measure up to Mustang and Krispy Kreme and the bagels were stale. Maybe they couldn’t achieve the volume to keep their inventory fresh.
