Mr. SMU Earns SMU Literati Prize
Marshall Terry, the SMU emeritus professor and alum known as “Mr. SMU,” will be honored with the Friends of the SMU Libraries Literati Award at the Tables of Content dinner March 31.
I love Marsh Terry. I wrote a story about him last year, and he was genuinely one of the nicest, most thoughtful interviewees I’ve ever come across. When I saw him at an SMU event a few months later, he offered to buy me lunch, despite the fact that we were at a free lunch. You just can’t top that.
I’ll let SMU communications take it from here:
The celebration begins at 6 p.m. at the James M. Collins Executive Education Center with a cocktail reception honoring Top Ten Haute Young Authors, and featuring entertainment by magician and SMU President’s Scholar Trigg Watson. Honored authors include Matt Bondurant, Christopher Heaney, P.J. Hoover, Paul Otremba, Dominic Smith, Michael Anthony Steele, Becky Wade, Christine Warren, Jo Whittemore and JoaquÍn Zihuatanejo.
The presentation of Terry’s award and Tables of Content dinner will follow at 7:15 p.m., with SMU faculty members and other interesting members of the Dallas community, serving as table hosts. Table sponsorships and individual ticket purchases are available online and must be received by March 26. More information is available by calling 214-768-3225 or by emailing cruppi@smu.edu. Black tie is optional and valet parking will be available.
Last year’s Literati Award went to Laura Bush, so Marsh is in pretty decent company. If you see him, say hey. You won’t regret it.
