Highland Park Has Contested Mayoral Election
I just left Town Hall, where a drawing was held to determine the order of names on the May 12 ballot. The first name Highland Park voters will see on the list of mayoral candidates will be a familiar one to readers of this blog: Sam Tamborello. He’ll be followed by Joel Williams.
Missing from the ballot will be the incumbent, Mayor Bill Seay, who could have run for a third term but has decided to retire, said town secretary Gayle Kirby.
Highland Park DPS Sgt. Wayne Kilmer and I had the honor of drawing numbers for the order of the Town Council ballot, and since that race won’t be contested, I didn’t think I was violating any kind of journalistic ethics by participating. Incumbents Andrew Barr, Will Beecherl, Larry Nixon, and Stephen Rogers will be joined by newcomer Bob Carter. Gail Madden is leaving the council due to term limits.
Sam Tamborello, again? Ugh. How big of a margin do we need to make him go away for good?
I wish the committee that decides who will run would find at least one woman for the town council (or mayor).
@Jen. I like to see Quixotic Sam run. It reminds us all that we are allowed to run without being chosen by the committee.
@Jen
at least Sam Tamborello doesn’t have to hide behind the HP community league…does the league really have the residents best interests at heart, or, are they just in it for their own personal agenda? I think the latter…
Run Sam Run.
@DemBones, Net;
Well stated. Agreed on both counts.
@Jen, What you meant to say was:
Ugh. Democracy. Why do we have to put up with “outsiders” thinking they have a voice.
Oh, never fear, bloggers. I’m all in favor of contested races. In fact, I think it’s a very healthy thing. I’m just not a fan of Sam and just wish there was a more qualified and competent opponent.
@Jen: agreed.
@Jen, I’ve been chuckling at your comments for sometime. You have made a publicly broad allegation that I’m not competent or qualified to be Mayor of Highland Park, Texas. How would you know? You make disparaging comments without fact, and, hide behind your disparaging comments with an alias name.
Here is a fact. In the 2010 HP general municipal election, (and when I ran for councilmember) your HP community league (HPCL) buddies listed HP town hall’s telephone number on their website with their slate to vote for. When the HPCL telephone number on the HPCL website was called, the line was answered by HP city hall and then transferred over to the HP town secretary’s office. It was claimed by this office that…… ONLY mail was being collected for the HPCL (and by the way, a registered Political Action Committee). I also recall a new HP town secretary being sworn into office.
I think you need to freshen up on the Texas Election Code. Jen, with that said, and kindly said to you, I can close my eyes every night with a clear conscious knowing I worked for every single vote, and, I did not have to depend on someone else for getting my votes.
God bless you.
Speaking of facts:

Not sure this Is the same guy running for hp mayor. Looks like it is tho.
@Citizen, May I bring you a free “VOTE FOR SAM” mayoral campaign lawn sign?
Kindly said and chuckling….I am very proud, and always will be, for the many years in the investment business. I helped many folks that appreciated my work for over a decade in the investment advisement and management business. Unfortunatley, a challenge came my way, I did the best I could with the matter, and issued a full refund to the few complainants. Further, I issued a full refund for every other client regardless.
Any other questions Citizen? I’m here. I may have a few questions of my own. Is that o.k? Thanks for your blog and say hello to Jen!
Sam.
Dear “Citizen”, “Jen” & “HP Parent”:
In my opinion, I found some interesting readings. I believe you have a politcal right to your expression of opinion and posting of public findings, as I believe I do.
Please take a good-hard-look on your side of the aisle.
