The Highland Park girls soccer team will host its second annual fundraising game March 9. With the theme, “Take Care of Our Own,” team members are collecting money for the district’s Special Education Department.

“A number of our players have siblings enrolled in Highland Park High School’s special education program, and many more of us have had the privilege to work with students in special education through the popular Peer-Tutor Program,” said team captain Ellen Heighten, whose brother Jon is autistic. “Seeing those who have to work so much harder than we do to enjoy success has made a difference in our own lives, and we want to help them and the Special Education Department.”

The girls will present a donation at 7 p.m. between the junior varsity and varsity games against Creekview High School, which will be played at Highlander Stadium.

Tax-deductible donations may be mailed to Margaret Weinkauf at 3545 Mockingbird Lane, 75205. For more information, pick up the March 2 edition of Park Cities People.

Great words by team captain. Very commendable. These are the kind of students that make our community great.
