Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Debutantes Bow To Raise Funds For Symphony
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League presented 51 débutantes this past Saturday including former HP-er Julie Skorburg at the fundraising ball for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson. Each executed the “Texas dip” flawlessly.
Before dismissing the bow, try doing it with your head seamlessly coming within inches of the ground. Now imagine trying to do it with a bouquet in one hand, high heels and in front of 1,000 guests. Even the best contortionist would find it a challenge.
it is an impressive bit of acrobatics … what is the history of the “Texas dip?” Does it come from days of the republic?
Don’t know exactly when it started, but the Texas Dip set the International Débutante Ball reeling years ago. Seems the other debs did a nice curtsy. Then the Texas gals made a full to-the-floor bow. Since that time the Texans have been jaw-dropping show stoppers.
