Holiday Season Has Officially Ended

Late last week, I spotted a house on Wentwood that still had a Santa Claus on the porch and a Nativity in the yard. I was prepared to mercilessly make fun of that this morning — the one-month mark since Christmas Eve’s eve — but the decor was put away over the weekend. However, I do think this same house still has some Halloween cobwebs hanging from the second-floor windows.

I am the polar opposite of you, Dan. I don’t like when Christmas decorations are taken down too early. Anything to remind me of the Christmas spirt it great. I want that feeling to linger. So they should be up until at least Orthodox Christmas or Epiphany. I know this past weekend is pushing it a little, but maybe they are busy people.

I don’t think Highland Park Village has taken down a single string of lights yet. And they are all ablaze every evening.

I’m really disappointed in the tone of this post precisely because it reminded me so much of Merritt, as it obviously did other folks.

Pointing out funny things that happen is one thing. Making fun of our friends and neighbors (who’ve done nothing wrong) in a derogatory manner, and humiliating them in public, is quite another. The latter is neither funny nor fun. In this case, the breach of protocol was to show a little holiday spirit, for God’s sake. Maybe the people in the house can’t get around as well as they used to, but they still wanted to honor Christmas. Maybe they had a death in the family. Maybe they were out of town. Who knows? Either way, you sufficiently described the house such that their neighbors are surely aware what household is to be made fun of.

The post was desperate, disappointing, snotty, negative, and very much beneath you, Dan. Bringing each other down is not what our community is supposed to be about.

Dan, good points made by “adam.” You should apologize and don’t let the breakfast at the DCC spoil you. First, the tacky misleading comment about “the Pontiac” by the PCP, and now, a bad comment by the PCP about people not being able to put decorations up as quick as some folks.

I sure hope these folks were not having a difficult time Dan or maybe needed some help due to an unfortunate time with life.
