Amelia Paige Stamper & John Richard Owens III
Amelia Paige Stamper and John Richard Owens III exchanged vows August 20 at the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Orange County, Calif. Chaplain Jaison Fusion, who served with the groom aboard the USS Nimitz during their eight-month deployment in the Middle East, performed the formal military ceremony. During the wedding Lyssie Smith of Washington, D.C. sang an a cappella rendition of “How Great Thou Art.” The scripture readings were by Kelly Nagel of Chicago and Tom Douglas, uncle of the groom, of Nashville, Tenn. A seated reception of dining and dancing followed at Sierra Plaza in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. The couple entered the wedding reception under the arch of swords held by the uniformed, white-gloved groomsmen.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Bernard Stamper Jr. of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Carrie Beth Compton and the late Mr. Paul Compton of Columbus, Miss. and Dr. and Mrs. Marshall Bernard Stamper of Newport Beach, Calif.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Owens of University Park. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Douglas of Atlanta and Mrs. John Owens and the late Mr. John Owens, also of Atlanta.
For her wedding the bride selected an opulent gown of silk taffeta, adorned with three tiers of Swarovski crystals, from designer Kenneth Pool.
The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Attending as maid of honor was Carrie McLean of Mobile, Ala. Her bridesmaids included Christy Mask, Orange County, Calif.; Amanda Owens Banks, Greenville, S.C.; Laura Owens Baker, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Julie Dennis, San Diego; Danielle Marchioro, Denver; Julie Dennie, San Diego; Jenna Handweiler, Los Angeles; Kristina Sage, Las Vegas; and Katie Tucker, San Diego.
Serving the groom as best man was his father, Rick Owens. Groomsmen included David Owens, Charlottesville, Va.; Jared Stamper, Chico Calif.; 2nd Lt. Jesse Burdick, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; 1st Lt. Jared Dicks, Pensacola, Fla., Lt. j.g. Daniel Foose, San Diego; Lt. j.g. Brian Miller, San Diego; Lt. j.g. Adam Schuman, Norfolk, Va.; Lt. j.g. Patrick Livesay, Norfolk, Va.; and Lt. j.g. Josh Andres, currently serving in Iraq. Ushers were Mike Baker, Chapel Hill, N.C.; John Banks, Greenville, S.C.; Lt. j.g. Matt Wiggins, New Orleans; Lt. j.g. Ben Biles, Annapolis, Md.; and Paul Brutuco, Orange County, Calif.
The bride is a graduate of Capistrano Valley Hill High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in marketing/communications from the University of San Diego. She is continuing her studies as a graduate student, earning a master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University.
The groom is a graduate of Cambridge School of Dallas. He received a Bachelor of Science in political science from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a lieutenant, junior grade, serving in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence officer in San Diego.
Following their wedding trip to Belize, the couple now reside in San Diego.
