Don’t Drive Through Construction Sites in HP
A note from HPDPS today:
There are several blocks in HP that have “ROAD CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION” and “NO THRU TRAFFIC” signs.
These blocks are ONLY open to residents who live on streets where work is being conducted.
HPDPS Officers are writing citations, which start at $198.00 and escalate to $298.00 and are considered a hazardous, moving violation that gets reported on your driving record. The higher fee is charged when workers are present.
The amounts listed above are per ticket fines, so if you bypass signage at 4500 and 4600 blocks of Beverly Drive during work day hours, you could face fines totally $596.00, however most HPDPS officers may only write one ticket.
I actually considered driving through the Beverly construction zone yesterday afternoon, so this email came at the right time. I ain’t got 200 bones lying around.
I got tagged on my way to the airport. I pulled in to check something in my luggage. Then pulled through. A cop was waiting at the next corner and ticketed me for $198. Luckily, it was early and no one was working. But I expected it to be about a $50. fine. Not a whopping $198.
I have never been given any leniency by HP police in the twenty years I’ve lived here. Tickets for no seat belt(about 2 houses down as I was pulling away), slightly expired registration and inspection stickers. Really, an occasional warning would be appreciated.
the HP cops I’ve run into are impatient and unpleasant, while, on the other hand, the UP cops I’ve interacted with have been awesome.
I don’t think those tickets will stand up in court. TK you should have no problem getting the ticket tossed out.
@ TK and scofflaw – the message is, “Don’t mess with HP.” I kind of like it! And if I’ve ever needed the HP police for something at my home, they are outstanding.
I agree w/Scofflaw. We need to get the UP police to slap a few citations of those HP folks and balance out that revenue stream………HP cops tend to be angry………..
HP cops let me go with a warning on an expired inspection, but ticketed my wife for the same thing 1 day after her sticker had expired.
I agree that the UP police are much more professional and get their job done with a positive attitude vs a negative attitutde.
Could not resist, but….ANY officer, including Highland Park’s DPS, are heroes. You see, these folks put on their badge to protect each of us, and they all do an outstanding job.
Kindly keep the disparaging remarks elsewhere, and if you do not want a fine or ticket or whatever…then please read the very visible “notice” signs that are displayed.
Chief Vinson and his department of officers are outstanding, and some of whom have bravely served in our military and slept in fox holes to allow our freedom.
Thanks!
