Rise and Shine, Park Cities (7-8-11)

1. I’ve always heard that most Park Cities residents flee Dallas for the summer. But if that’s true, who were those thousands of people at the parade on Monday? Is this mass exodus just a myth, or are there Park Cities people reading this who are living among a bunch of technically vacant houses right now?

2. That reminds me of a funny story: Early in my tenure at this paper, I was pitched a story about someone and, as always, I asked, “Does he live in the Park Cities?” The answer I got back was “I believe he has a summer home in the Park Cities.” Uh-huh.

We come back for the parade, one of the many great reasons to live in the Park Cities. But we leave as soon as we can for cooler climes, returning to Dallas in early-August when the children’s sports teams commence practice for the fall season.

And when we’re here, we enjoy the light traffic and abundance of parking places although our neighborhoods feel like ghost towns.

Most of our neighbors are here in the summer. Some go to the beach for 2-4 weeks but for the most part, everyone’s here except for a week or two. Maybe not in the $2MM+ homes.
