Rise and Shine, Park Cities (7-1-11)

1. Did you know Park Cities Animal Hospital performed Dallas’ first in-house stem-cell procedure? (As opposed to having the stem cells processed elsewhere.) The beneficiary was a pooch named Precious. We’ll have details in the July 8 edition of the paper.

2. The Highland Park Independent School District earned a pair of honorable mentions for writing excellence from the National School Public Relations Association. The honored op-eds were “Private gifting fills in the missing piece of HPISD’s school finance puzzle” by trustee Joe Taylor and “HPISD is an amazing place to teach, learn and shape the future” by Superintendent Dawson Orr. Congratulations, Helen — er, I mean, gentlemen.

3. There’s a Lone Star Park radio commercial that imagines a horse playing baseball. The horse is identified as the winner of “The Park Cities Stakes,” an imaginary race, I presume. If such a race did exist, what would the name of the winning horse be? Bubble Burster? Pride O’ The Scots? Nowhere to Parkie? Comments are on.

    “Man-O-War”?

    “Man-O-Warped-Sense-Of-Values-Since-I-Never-Worked-Very-Hard-But-Instead-Waited-For-My-Parents-To-Get-Old-And-Subtly-Mooched-My-Way-Back-Into-Their-$2M-House-Under-The-Pretense-Of-Caring-For-Them-While-Hoping-No-One-Would-Notice”?

Nah, “Man-O-War” is easier to remember. I think.
