Former Ursuline Star Playing in World Cup
Former Ursuline soccer standout Alina Garciamendez is playing for Mexico in the Women’s World Cup in Germany.
Mexico is in Group B. Garciamendez, who plays for Stanford, started in the team’s opener, a 1-1 draw against England. Mexico will take on Japan at 9 a.m. Friday.
Garciamendez is not the only soccer player in her family. Her younger brother, Kristian, helped Jesuit win a Class 5A state title in 2010, while her older brother, Erik, plays for Georgetown.
