Haven’t Had a Nibble at Wilcox’s Marquee Yet?

Sarah Reiss over at our tasty sister blog, Side Dish, does the dirty work so you don’t have to. That said, don’t be surprised if you end up spending lunch and dinner in the ultra contemporary Highland Park Village restaurant and bar. According to Reiss, it’s the cocktails at Marquee, located conveniently located above the Village Theatre, that will keep you in your seat.

Respect to Jason Kosmas for his deft and layered cocktail menu. We ordered a trial margarita, tangy with blood orange juice and a spicy kick. Since Kosmas was pouring, we asked him to surprise us on our second drink, with the only stipulations being that he use tequila or rum, give it some heat, and not make it too sweet. What arrived was exactly that—a delicious cocktail tailored to my specs. But, after trying both, I actually preferred the margarita off the menu. The moral: trust the man behind the shaker.

Me? I’m looking forward to dessert!

Thanks for the tip on the Trial Margarita. I ordered one last night ($10.00) and it was the best drink I’ve ever had. Truly the best. And they don’t skimp on their drinks, either. Mine came in a fairly large ordinary glass instead of a thimble-sized margarita glass. The drink comes w/o salt and trust me, you won’t want any.

And the food was as good as the drink. We shared the crispy duck spring rolls for an appetizer, I had the flat iron steak, and my son got a mammoth bacon cheese burger w/fries ($15.00 — not on the menu) and a rootbeer (NB: the waiter will keep refilling your kid’s drink; but alas, no free refills on the margarita). For dessert, we split the popcorn tart ice cream thing and it was amazing.

Total with tip was $110.00, but everything was so good, and the service so outstanding, that I’m glad we splurged.
