UP Fire Damages Four Properties
A fire late Sunday night caused damage to four University Park properties, and neighbors found expired bullet casings from exploded ammunition in their yards.
The fire began in the detached garage of 3308 Wentwood Drive, but quickly spread to nearby residences due to the high winds, said University Park spokesman Steve Mace. The blaze was reported at 11:38 p.m., and when firefighters arrived at 11:44 p.m., the garage was engulfed. Soon, the attic of 3304 Wentwood was on fire, as was a stretch of rain gutters on 3304 Villanova.
After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found spent bullet casings throughout the garage and neighborhood, said Fire Chief Randy Howell. The garage owner said he stored some excess ammunition in the garage, Howell added.
No one was injured during the fire, and the cause is still under investigation.
