Let’s Play Ball
For the past two summers, Greenhill athletes have run the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) camp for kids in East Dallas. Louis Andres started the camp with help from DISD and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. The camp was coached by 15 Greenhill volunteer baseball players every morning at the Dave Andres Ballpark the week of June 6-10.
The Greenhill volunteers taught baseball skills to boys and girls ages 7-11 for free. Fifty kids participated in the camp this year, and every one of them was given a special nickname, including “The Professor,” “Tony the Tiger,” “Baby Ruth,” “The Terminator,” and “Brick Wall.” Each day, the kids rotated among stations focused on throwing, running, fielding, and catching. The campers also scrimmaged to apply their new skills.
The camp session ended with sliding practice on a Slip n’ Slide. Then the campers enjoyed a cookout lunch. They were each gifted with two tickets to a Rangers game, and a personalized award. Awards included Most Improved, MVP, Best Nickname, Best Attitude, and Most Spirit.
