108 Salutations for Haiti

It might have been too early for the retail stores at NorthPark Center to have opened Saturday morning, but that did not stop hundreds of men and women from opening their hearts and wallets for a good cause. These people were supporting the yoga event One Love. Twelve local yoga teachers led the group in 108 sun salutations for three hours in the mall’s center garden.

The charity Off the Mat organized the One Love event. Their goal was to inspire people through yoga, and help them use their new consciousness to solve global issues of social justice and equality. Each participant donated at least $108. The proceeds were divided among five charities all benefiting Haiti. Their charitable efforts include rubble removal in Port-au-Prince through J/P HRO, education through the Jacmel Children’s Center, water purification systems through Fountains of Hope International, rural development through the Association of the Peasants of Fondwa, and micro-financing with Fonkoze, “Haiti’s alternative bank for the organized poor.”
