Rise and Shine, Park Cities (6-7-2011)

1. University Park announced this year’s slate for its Dive-In Movie series Monday, which combines two eternal loves for children: staying in the pool as long as possible and staying up past your bedtime. This year’s series kicks off with at 9 p.m. July 8,  with Despicable Me. On July 29 families are invited to bob and watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, and the series wraps up on August 10 with Megamind.

The series takes place at the Holmes Aquatic Center, and is free for all (which is different than A free for all.) The snack bar will be open, lifeguards will be twirling their whistles, and showtime is 9:30 p.m. Doors/ lap lanes open at 9 p.m.

2. Speaking of University Park, busy agenda tonight, including…..the return of the Apache helicopter! This is becoming the new Legacy Hillcrest (which, coincidentally, is also on the agenda for a minor scheduling to-do), if Legacy Hillcrest was an awesome $12 million flying machine named after some of the most wicked warriors to ever walk in America.

I’ll have an update tomorrow to see if if the Apache will indeed be landing in Goar Park on July 4.

3. The Highland Park Town Council meeting will actually be tomorrow at 8 a.m., instead of on its usual Monday. I imagine this is to make up for the meeting that should’ve taken place on Memorial Day, though they could just be moving the date to confuse me. I’m easily distracted.

4. I’m going to a screening of Super 8 tonight, which I’ll then review for FrontRow. Steven Spielberg. J.J. Babe-rams. Coach Eric Taylor. Jealous?

Would have been jealous if you hadn’t been missing one of the greatest playoff games ever.

Good point. But I did catch the last quarter, so it wasn’t a total wash. I’m also a Knicks fan, so I’m still trying to figure out how this whole “playoffs” thing works.
