Pirates Draft Jesuit’s Bell
Although he sent a letter to Major League Baseball saying he fully intends to play college baseball at the University of Texas, Jesuit outfielder Josh Bell was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 61st overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft today.
Bell, a 6-4, 195-pound switch hitter, was projected to be a first-round pick before he sent his letter to the MLB. It’s not likely he’ll end up signing with the Pirates, but you can’t blame Pittsburgh for taking a shot on Bell, a five-tool player who hit .584 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI this season.
The Rangers went 34-9 and advanced to the Class 5A Region II semifinals.
