Wakeland’s Joey Swanner hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Wolverines an 8-6 victory and the Class 4A Region II quarterfinal series.
Wakeland has eliminated Highland Park from the playoffs two straight seasons.
What an amazing effort by this great group of guys. They battled to the end in all three. Chuck – you ever seen bases loaded in bottom of 7th with no outs in a tie game – where there were 3 ground balls to 3 different infielders to get out of the inning? That is what I call teamwork
Wish the leadoff line focused on the Scots, not Wakeland. It was a great season and an awesome group of players, coaches & parents!
Yes, it ended too soon, but for everyone involved with the game (including the great fans!) it was a series for the ages.
All the best to the Seniors – you all will be missed!
Chuck – I think you were at the games Saturday. Those boys played their hearts out, and have all season, and all you can say is that they lost? Seems we could mention something more than the walk off that ended the game. Maybe even the great crowd that stayed there on a hot Saturday for a close to 6 hours to cheer on these boys? Or how they battled in each of the 3 games – every player on the field contributing? I think the team and the fans deserve a bit more
Joey Swanner is a heck of a ball player.
Great bunch of kids. Too bad that poor coaching led to the losses to Wakeland both years.
