Rise and Shine, Park Cities (4-29-11)

1. I served lunch at HPMS/MIS yesterday and showed up at the normal time, 10:20. When I got there, I found out the start of the lunch periods had been delayed by at least 45 minutes because of TAKS testing. Many other volunteers were just as surprised about this as I was. If you’re scheduled to serve today, call ahead.

2. If I make it out to the movies anytime soon, it’ll be to see Thor and/or Green Lantern. What can I say? I’m nerdy like that. But if you want to see movies with a Park Cities connection, you have two free options coming up. A week from today, SMU graduate student Michael McKowen’s MFA thesis film will be screened at 7 p.m. in the Owens Arts Center’s O’Donnell Auditorium. On May 12, movies made by seniors in SMU’s Division of Film and Media Arts will be shown at 7:30 p.m. at the Angelika. Again, no charge for either event.

3. Five sets of eyes looked over today’s entry in our 30 Years, 30 Stories series. None of us caught that my first paragraph says 1983 even though the story is about 1993. D’oh! I need to stop giggling so much about the errors I’m finding in our archived editions as we research these stories.
