Rise and Shine, Park Cities (4-27-11)

1. Early voting doesn’t start until Monday, but you can find out a little more about your HPISD School Board candidates Sam Dalton and Amy Titus and right now through their Facebook pages. Right now, Dalton has 42 “likes” and Titus trails with 30. Is it just me, or is this Facebook presence a first for elections in the Park Cities?

2. Invitations are in the mail for Highland Park High School’s May 7 prom. While seniors got the scarin’ of their life last Tuesday, I’m sure they’ll still find a way to have a good, sober time at the event, dubbed “A Red Carpet Affair.” Fifty dollars will get students in the door at Union Station for a night of gambling and dancing. However, if parents wanted to have an equally good time, I think the Choctaw is what, an hour and a half away?

3. While we have tons of cool summer camps content in this week’s Park Cities People, we didn’t have room for everything. One really cool camp event is the Highland Park Scots Summer Baseball camp hosted by Coach Oliver. Kids ages 5 to 14 will learn the fundamentals on the field at Scotland Yard. All proceeds go to the Highland Park High School baseball program. To find out more, call 214-780-3039.

4. From the “Round of Applause” file: Eleanor Callan, a University Park teen who attends Dallas Academy and is a member of the school’s Interact club, was selected to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards summer camp this summer. At the exclusive camp, Eleanor will strengthen her leadership skills and make boatloads of new friends. Congratulations, Eleanor!
