Lost Gun Found With Paper’s Help
The April 8 edition of our police report included this:
At 3:42 p.m. April 1, a fully loaded .357 Smith & Wesson Magnum was found in the 7000 block of Inwood Road.
Last week, I got a call from a reader who believes that’s his gun. He lives in University Park and said he forgot the gun was sitting on the roof or hood of his car when he went for a drive that day. When he discovered it was missing, he panicked at the prospect of his weapon finding its way into the hands of a child or a criminal.
He called his hometown police department, but the UPPD said they didn’t know anything about it. Once he saw the gun mentioned in our paper, he called the Dallas Police Department. But the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly in Big D. Without a case number, the folks in Dallas didn’t know what to tell him.
That’s when he called me. I helped him out by sending him a link to the incident report about the gun at dallaspolice.net. This morning, I emailed him for an update. His reponse:
Thanks again for your help and follow up. I connected with the detective in charge and should get the gun back in 4-6 weeks.
Is there a way to revoke a gun license? Geez.
@A.B. Absolutely. That’s scary
