Attn: Bradfield Parents; McNutt Will Get Her Due
I just listened to a voicemail from a Bradfield mom who didn’t identify herself. She was upset with me because we wrote glowing features about the retirements of Ben Coker and Mary Richey in our last two editions, but the retirement of Bradfield principal Gloria McNutt evoked a story in today’s edition that addressed the question: “Hey, what’s up with all these retirements?”
The caller makes a legitimate point. But with three high-profile retirements in as many weeks, I felt the question at the end of the previous paragraph had to be asked.
But I also feel that we should acknowledge the contributions of McNutt in a manner similar to the way we covered those of Coker and Richey. And, assuming McNutt will participate, we plan to publish such a feature before the end of the semester.
Meanwhile, the latest edition of the Highland ISD e-newsletter says the Bradfield PTA will host a reception for McNutt from 4 to 6 p.m. May 11 in the cafeteria. See you there?
I think the political climate in this state is the reason for all of these retirements. Right now is a good time to get out of education. Next the governor will start going after teachers’ pensions and healthcare.
