Ogden, Stainback Staying in Texas
Highland Park volleyball player Hope Ogden and baseball player Ford Stainback will both be continuing their playing careers at the next level. And both are staying in the Lone Star State.
Ogden will be a preferred walk-on at Baylor, while Stainback signed with Rice. The duo was honored at a ceremony in the HPHS cafeteria on Wednesday afternoon.
Stainback is the fourth straight Scots shortstop to sign a Division I scholarship, joining J.B. Gadd (Princeton), Alex Flink (Princeton), and Joey Hainsfurther (Baylor). So, who was the slacker who didn’t go on to play shortstop in college from Highland Park before this run? Some dude named Matthew Stafford.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to it a lot,” Stainback said. “First of all, I want to do well this season. I don’t want to look that far ahead. I hope I can help them out. When I went down there, they said there’s only two places in the nation where you can get the best education and the best baseball program — and that’s Stanford and Rice.”
What a great legacy… these kids are fantastic. Our younger kids look up to them so much and when they value their education it is even better. Pretty lofty history, those shortstops .
