Rise And Shine, Park Cities (4-12-11)
1. Happy 150th birthday, Civil War! And, in recognition of your longevity, Pulitzer Prize winning historian Steven Hahn will lead a discussion of “Why The Civil War Mattered” at 6 p.m., tonight, at SMU’s McCord Auditorium. Oh and it’s free, so huzzah!
2. Read more about yesterday’s Highland Park Town Council meeting in Friday’s dead-tree edition, but here’s a teaser: the town needs money. Like, millions of one dollar bills. Looks like the Town Hall renovation might go over budget (which is surprising to no one with any experience in a.) government, b.)contracting, or, c.) life), so cash could become a problem.
3. Congrats are also in order to the town’s 2010 Employees of the Year, recognized during Monday’s meeting. They are:
Sgt. Charles McGinnis- Public Safety Supervisor
Det. Marty Nevil- Public Safety Officer
Michelle Flanagan- Public Safety Civilian
Gerri Robeson- Municipal Court Deputy Clerk
Litsa Valis- Finance and Human Resources Secretary
Alan Aulenbach- Engineering Project Coordinator
Janie Pettus- part-time Library Children’s Coordinator
4. A bit of back-patting on my part, but I truly believe this upcoming Friday’s edition of the paper is A+. If you don’t usually pick up the print edition, do it this week. Lots of news, plus our usual plethora of cute kid photos.
Congratulations to HP Librarian “Miss Janie” Pettus, a most deserving Employee of the Year!
Hmmmm….so much for those “letters” urging HP residents to vote for the HPCL 2010 slate. Maybe I should get my campaign signs back out!
Here’s my idea, since HP has several rich boys on town council, simply divide the deficit between them (my political opinion).
Sam Tamborello.
Congrats to Detective Marty Nevill with HPDPS, she is always on top of things and does an amazing job with everything! Also to the other 2010 employee of the year winners!
7 Employees of the Year? Kind of like 7 MVP’s.
@XT
They always select three DPS employees, three employees from the regular staff, and one part-timer. Should’ve explained that.
