Scots Get Dramatic Bi-District Win
The Highland Park boys soccer team got a goal from sophomore Sam Hayward with one minute left in the second overtime of its scoreless bi-district game against Sulphur Springs on Thursday night in Royse City.
Sixty seconds later, the Scots (9-6-5) had eliminated the Wildcats (15-5-5).
“I got the ball and chipped it over the first guy, because I thought there was space behind him,” Hayward said. “I thought their really good midfielder [Fernando Arellano] might have gotten a touch on it, but I got in front of him. After that, there was one guy. I knew I was going to be able to get open and get the shot. It was unreal. It’s one of the best plays I’ve ever had. We’re excited.”
Highland Park will take on the winner of tonight’s game between Sherman and Frisco in the area round early next week. The Scots lost to Sherman, 2-0, earlier this year, but that was before the calendar struck March. Highland Park is now 4-0-1 in its last five games this month.
