Rise and Shine, Park Cities (03-21-11)

1. Today was originally scheduled as the last day of spring break for HPISD but students are in class, making up days lost to snowmageddon 2011. So if you’re still in Hawaii, your kids are officially absent.

2. Let’s talk Big Love series finale. Last night we said goodbye to our favorite polygamous family and unlike the rip off end to Sopranos and Lost, the writers actually tied a bow on the story and (SPOILER ALERT) gave us a whopping surprise when Bill Henrickson’s neighbor pulled out a gun and blew him away in the cul de sac. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

3. Dear Pat with University Park Code Enforcement, thank you for reminding us that we are not allowed to bag leaves and put them in the alley for regular trash pick up. But I just wanted to let you know, I didn’t do it. My husband did. It won’t happen again. But let me ask you this. Did they open the bag to verify it was in fact leaves? And did it take longer to report the incident and issue the warning than it would have to just toss the ONE bag of leaves in the truck?

Pat “Compliance Enforcer Babe” Grecco scoffs at your questions; she has a giant list of everyone in UP who has ever been guilty of the teensiest alley violation and will haunt you forevermore. I know this because I had a vigorous discussion with her about alley foliage, including my plaintive comment “But it’s not a weed…it’s a rare form of Indonesian ground cover!” She didn’t buy it for a minute and will show no mercy to your spouse’s ignorance. IJS.

It could be worse. My husband put a can of yellow paint next to our garbage cans which was then flung into the air and crushed in the alley by the garbage truck. I suppose you could say the alley needed a splash of color.

Pat has taken us to task for alley “plants”, and one of our house numbers falling off the fence in the alley. I was amazed both times at the color photos she included in our warning letter, she’s a multi talented woman.

The bags of leaves are sent to a compost facility I believe, so putting them out as trash is wrong – anti-ecogroovy wrong. Hug a tree, kiss a whale, save the rainforest and DO NOT put your compostibles out as trash.

I think I’ve finally figured out why we have so many bags of leaves mysteriously appear in our alley near our trash can: lawn crews working in UP can’t leave them in those alleys, so they dump them in random HP alleys, often on our flowers.

You don’t mulch? That’s it. We’re breaking up.
