Home Robbery Reported Near Southwestern and Douglas in University Park

This email started making its way around this morning.

Might be a good time to start putting your alarm on at night.  Last night [name of resident] was robbed while she was at home.  She thought she heard something at 2:00 am so she got up and locked her bedroom door.  At 5:00 am they were trying to get into her bedroom.  She called the UP police who were at her house in minutes but her car, purse, keys, computers are gone.  That’s what they have noticed so far but if they were in her house from 2-5 I would imagine more things could be missing.

Anyway, don’t mean to scare you all but thought it was pretty ballsy of these people to enter a house when it was obvious someone was home(car in the driveway, lights on, etc….).

Chief Gary Adams of the University Park Police Department confirmed the report.

We are working this.  I would hope that if this happens to anyone else they would call the police immediately!

What Chief Adams said! She was worried enough to lock her bedroom door but laid there for 3 freaking hours afterwards???????? She must feel like a complete moron.

I always bring my handbag with wallet, keys, cellphone, etc. up to our bedroom at night. In case of an emergency, I want to be able to grab and go.

This wasn’t a robbery. A robbery is stealing using force, threats, or violence.

Someone from my neighborhood group forwarded me a list of “how to stay safe” items, and one stuck out at me that I had never thought of: keep your car keys on your nightstand.

In case of emergency, you can always push the alarm button and your car alarm will go off (assuming you have one). If that doesn’t scare anyone away, your neighbors would at least probably investigate/call police/etc.

Either the email details are wrong or the victim’s story is. No one waits 3 hours to call the police.
