Rise and Shine, Park Cities (2-21-11)
1. In Friday’s paper, the headline I wrote for the story about Fuel City owner John Benda is “He’s Got a Ranch in Downtown Dallas.” This was a reference to the old Western Warehouse jingle that, as I explained to the transplants on my staff, is burned into the brains of all Dallas natives of a certain age. Anyone care to prove me right by typing the rest of the lyrics into the comments?
2. A few weeks ago, Merritt Patterson wrote about The Betsy Project, a fundraiser inspired by cancer-stricken Park Cities resident Betsy Vincent. We’ve received word that the organization’s donations have surpassed $115,000. Not bad.
3. Highland Park Village has announced that a Pucci pop-up store will move in next to Deno’s next month. I have no idea how significant this is. I defer to any fashionistas who may be reading this.
Buy diamonds by the ton
Chase cuties in my Cadillac
Drill oilwells just for fun
But when it comes to boots I need a deal
That’ll fit me right, toe to heel
So I get my boots at Western Warehouse
Well, that didn’t take long.
A Pucci pop-up store? Finally!
Lasso whip or gunshot sound at the end, right? The jingle has been running through my brain since seeing your headline.
And here I thought we were studiously not mentioning Merritt’s name around here. Move along, nothing to see here…
So on that note, whose brain can’t forget the jingle for 748-1414? Still driving me insane, wanting to place an ad…

I best remember:
“Fort Worth National! That’s MY bank.”
@Uppercase Matt: 748-1414. 748-1414!!
@Uppercase Matt – I think the PCP is trying to act all normal before their “real story of the persecution of Merritt Patterson” comes out on Friday.
“Call R. A. Gabriel…”
@Elephantitis — I think you’re probably right. Though I wonder why DMag/PCP thought that they needed to “respond”. Whatever did or didn’t happen, it happened to a business enterprise separate from this company. Like many other things, this reaction makes it look like the DMag empire sure doesn’t address things objectively, but uses their voice to steer the conversation where they want it to go.
Double-A beep beep M C O. Right, Widetrack?
I’m disappointed in my old pal 1Zima (you too, Dan). True non-transplants should remember that the place was called Western Wearhouse (not Warehouse). It was a pun on “western wear.”
