University Park Working on Traffic Signal

A reader e-mailed us today to ask about the traffic light at Lovers Lane and Armstrong Parkway, which has become a four-way stop since the ice storm. “Does the city know how much the stop sign backs up traffic in an already congested stretch of road?” the reader asked.

University Park spokesman Steve Mace said the mast arm was damaged during the storm, but the contractor is on site as I type this post. The crew is laying foundation and conduit, and the concrete has to cure for seven days. So the earliest the new mast arm can go up is next Friday. If not then, Mace said, by March 1 at the latest.

“We are aware of the traffic consequences,” Mace said. “The situation has our full attention.”

Mace said the city was lucky on this front. That mast arm was longer than most, and when the city called last week for a replacement, the supplier had only one in stock.

We will be glad to see the light back up. Thank you!

While you are fixing this problem, can you please address the endless people that hold up the traffic on Southbound Loma Alto by making a left turn. This is a DAILY problem that keeps the traffic backed up often. No LEFT turns people. There is a sign. Plus they usually dart in front of cars coming off the tollway or run the redlight because there was no break in traffic. This backs things up for the tollway exit ramp too because these cars are sticking out into the intersection. Very dangerous. Is this UP or Dallas issue?

There is also another problem with the light at the Tollway and Lovers Lane. When heading east on Lovers Lane going under the tollway and turning left (northbound) onto Lomo Alto, you cannot see the left turn light until you are right upon it. I’m not sure if it’s because the lip of the traffic light is bent downward or the light inside is bent downward. It would be nice if whoever is responsible for this light (UP or Dallas?) would fix this problem. Thank you.
